Remembering Michael Jackson

Today is the 10th anniversary of the passing of the "King of Pop," Michael Jackson. I loved Michael and had the amazing opportunity to meet him twice. I mourn the loss of a great American artist and humanitarian.

When I think of Michael Jackson, I don't only think about arguably the greatest entertainer who has ever lived. I also think about the humanitarian who contributed an estimated $300 million dollars to charities, and who, when on tour, would often visit as many children's hospitals as he gave performances. Michael's commitment to people and the planet, as well as his music, inspire me to this day.

If you want to be a little sad, but also smile, please take a look at this live in studio performance from me 10 years ago:

"Tweetin' Donald" Music Video Update

The "Tweetin' Donald" music video short is 95% complete, and it looks fantastic.

The track is blistering, with amazing guitar work, and I'm really happy with the vocals as well. Our puppeteers did the most fantastic job, and the song and video really sparkle! The director, Ben Bogard, and I are working on the final cut and release date! More updates very soon! It is not too late to contribute and help produce this project. If you would like to be a backer, or have a question about this, please reply to this email me and say "I want to help make 'Tweetin' Donald' a reality!" I promise you... THE BEST IS YET TO COME!

This with Love! JPB

"Tweetin' Donald" - Making Music Videos Great Again

I'm very excited to share with you my newest project: "Tweetin' Donald" It’s a parody of the song "Rockin' Robin" that takes a comedic yet poignant look at our time so far with 45...with puppets!

The puppets are currently in production, the song is sounding great, the shoot is scheduled, and we have a fantastic creative team.

In Honor of Leonard Cohen

I hope you enjoy this fan shot house concert from a few years ago. While we have better quality videos, I thought this was appropriate for today.

It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah...

A Musical Update

Two years ago, we had our first reading of the musical that was then called "Chutzpah!" (the current title is "Kosher Kink."). The amazing Rainbow Geffner (book writer) helped raise thousands of dollars for a wonderful nonprofit (Camp Del Corazon) with this reading. Since that time, she (and I) have written and rewritten, and with help from many other people, we are making great progress. I'm very excited to share this show and the songs with all of you in the future. It is my hope to have this show ready by 2017!

In Memoriam - Bill Cunningham

I want to take a moment to pay tribute to Bill (or Billy, as I knew him) Cunningham. He was famous for his extraordinary photography. But I got to know him as a director. He cast and directed me a number of years ago in a play, "Region," at Musical Theater Works in New York City. The play was amazing, with some of the best music I've ever had the honor to sing. It was about Catholicism, homosexuality, AIDS, Buddhism, and finding peace in one's own life and loves.

Billy was great to work with. I LOVED working with him. He was a sweet, smart, gentle man. I hadn't spoken with him in years, but we always were on good terms. RIP Bill Cunningham, and thank you.
